What the News Didn't Tell You about Today

The heat of the day clung to me like the sweat of a lover

 

Cats could only lie beneath the bushes while dogs smiled revealing long bubble gum tongues

 

Birds burst onto the scene along with the fat, zipping bumble bees

 

Neighborhood kids ran barefoot, hop scotching from one yard into the next

 

Lazy policemen rolled through, no trouble here today

 

The scent of fresh cut grass swirled around, with a life force all its own

 

The man with the hotdog stand came out to bear witness to it all
